History of Harratts Group

1966 Derek & Stella Harratt started in business in Ossett.

1975 Built a showroom in Wakefield and formed Harratts of Wakefield Ltd.

1985 Developed site on Barnsley Road, Wakefield and acquired Volvo.

1987 Purchased property in Leeds and acquired Hyundai. 1989 Purchased land and developed site in Rotherham and acquired Volvo.

1990 Disposed of property in Leeds; Acquired Renault Franchise for Wakefield and developed site on Denby Dale Road.

1991 Moved Volvo to new site in Wombwell and acquired Nissan for Rotherham.

1994 Bought Malcolm Steele Nissan in Wakefield.

1995 Bought property and business assets of John Taylor Nissan in Barnsley.

1996 Bought assets of Jansens Volvo in Huddersfield; Purchased property in Pontefract for Renault; Developed land next to Renault on Denby Dale Road, Wakefield and built site for Wakefield Nissan. Renault and Nissan later exchanged sites

1997 Developed new site for Volvo Huddersfield; Acquired Mitsubishi for former Nissan site.

1997/1998 Built two showrooms in Barnsley to relocate Nissan and Volvo.

2000 Purchased site in Wakefield for prep and storage; Changed Nissan in Barnsley to Peugeot.

2001 Bought assets of Hinchcliffes in Sheffield and acquired Volvo.

2001/2002 Built showroom in Bradford for Volvo.

2002 Sold property in Wombell; Purchased land adjoining Prep Centre; Sold property in Rotherham.

2002/2003 Built showroom to relocate Volvo Sheffield.

2003 Bought land and buildings in Leeds and developed property for Volvo.

2005 Purchased lndustrial Estate in Crigglestone.

2006 Relocated Group Bodyshop to Crigglestone.

2007 Sold Prep Centre and relocated it to Crigglestone; Acquired Nissan to join Volvo in Sheffield.

2008 Sold freehold of Barnsley Volvo; Sold assets of Volvo Bradford but retained freehold.

2009 Acquired Honda to join Volvo on Barnsley Road, Wakefield.
